Women of Substance series welcomes "Celtic Christmas" to The O'Shaughnessy
The incomparable Katie McMahon brings her holiday magic, "Celtic Christmas," to The O'Shaughnessy Dec. 22.
Editor's note: Due to severe weather, this concert has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Dec. 22, 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the Dec. 11 performance will be honored at the rescheduled performance. For more information call The O'Shaughnessy Box office at 651-690-6700.
Katie McMahon will be joined by harmonizing vocalists, rhythmic percussion and a variety of festive strings in a return to the roots of the Christmas season.
They will perform not only Irish favorites, but a patchwork of European carols and lullabies including forgotten songs of yore in Gaelic, English, Latin, French and German.
Accompanied by the Corda Mor Iris Dancers, Celtic Christmas has become the liveliest of Christmas traditions.
More about McMahon
McMahon is probably best known for her exquisite soaring soprano solo in the original Riverdance single, which topped the charts in Ireland for three months. A 1998 Riverdance tour stop in Minneapolis led to a chance meeting with future husband, Ben Craig.
They were married in 2000 in Dublin and now reside in Minneapolis. McMahon has released four solo CDs and tours nationally and internationally as a solo artist and with the group, Secret Garden.
Tickets to her concert are $26 for adults, $21 for seniors, $11 for children and $17 for students with a valid ID. Tickets available at The O'Shaughnessy Box Office, 651-690-6700 or at Ticketmaster.
