Alumna honored by Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

St. Catherine University alumna Ann Erickson '75, MAOL'92  has been named the winner of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 2014 Award for Grassroots Excellence in recognition of her leadership in nutrition advocacy.

The Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics nominated Erickson for the award, citing her work in public policy and her leadership in the state affiliate. She has educated and involved affiliate members from across Minnesota to be active and visible participants in state-wide initiatives to improve the health of Minnesotans. In addition, she has worked to meet Minnesota's public policy goals by meeting with members of Congress and by developing a working relationship with the governor’s office and the state department of health. Her work has raised the level of involvement of dietetics students, registered dietitian nutritionists and dietetic technicians in Minnesota state policy decisions.

Erickson will be recognized for her achievements during the Academy's annual public policy workshop, to be held in Washington, D.C. in late March.

Erickson earned a bachelor of arts degree in food and nutrition: dietetics at St. Kate's in 1975, and later returned to add a master of arts degree in organizational leadership in 1992. She has remained active in the St. Catherine community as an Alumnae Relations volunteer and guest speaker for classes in the department of Nutrition and Exercise Science.
