Hip-hop artist Dessa to perform at St. Kate's
Dessa will be the first spoken-word artist to perform at The O'Shaughnessy in an event at 7:30 p.m. on April 20, on the St. Paul campus of St. Catherine University.
Dessa, who is also an artist in the hip-hop collective Doomtree, performs rap and hip-hop in addition to the spoken word. Described as the "most diverse and talented artist in indie rap" and "A one-woman powerhouse…with a literary sensibility and an aversion to genre clichés," Minneapolis native Dessa has emerged on the national scene as a rapper, singer, and a potent, imaginative lyricist.
Witness her power and a sneak peak of her highly anticipated October 2012 release Castor, The Twin, showcasing the imagery and narratives that define her as a songwriter and an emcee.
Tickets for the solo performance cost $10 for SCU students and they will be available beginning at noon on Feb. 14, with a student ID. Tickets for ACTC students (or any other college student with an ID cost $12) and can be purchased beginning on Feb. 27 at noon. Tickets for the general public cost $15 and can be purchased starting Feb. 27.
The concert is co-sponsored by the SCA Office and The O'Shaughnessy. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m., and a pre-show celebration will be held on the St. Catherine University quad.
