Alumnae to gather at Evening with the President
St. Catherine University alumnae will have a special opportunity to gather with University President Andrea Lee, IHM, on Monday, May 5. The first-ever Alumnae Evening with the President will give St. Kate’s graduates a chance to hear news about the University and the opportunity to ask Sister Andrea their own questions.
The Alumnae Evening with the President will take place in Rauenhorst Ballroom at Coeur de Catherine. The program will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
Sister Andrea will address the audience answering questions from a panel of alumnae on hot-button topics in today’s world of higher education. Among the issues to be addressed are affordability, the importance of educating women, religious identity, graduate programs, and women in science.
In addition to addressing questions from the alumnae panel, Sister Andrea will also conduct a question-and-answer session with the audience.
Following the program, there will be social time where Katies will have a chance to connect with each other and enjoy gourmet desserts. Alumnae will also be able to learn about volunteer opportunities and other ways to stay connected to St. Kate’s.
The Alumnae Evening with the President is a redesign of the event formerly known as the alumnae annual meeting. In past years, alumnae gathered in the spring for their annual meeting, which was required when the Alumnae Association was its own nonprofit group, a separate entity from the University. In 2010, the Alumnae Association became the University’s Office of Alumnae Relations. With this change, the annual meeting was no longer necessary.
With the announcement that the annual meeting would not take place this year, alumnae relations staff heard from Katies that they valued the opportunity to hear from Sister Andrea and it was something they didn’t want to lose.
“Alumnae have indicated to us that they are interested in hearing about the top challenges St. Catherine University is facing, and they also want to know how alumnae can help in these efforts,” says Karen Jothen MAOL’06, director of alumnae relations.
With all the changes and growth at St. Kate’s in recent years, the University feels very different to some alumnae. Hearing from Sister Andrea is a way for St. Kate’s graduates to keep abreast of the changes on campus.
On May 5, alumnae are invited to arrive on campus early to take advantage of campus tours beginning at 6 p.m. The tours will begin at the info center on the second floor of Coeur de Catherine.
In addition, the campus bookstore will remain open until 7 p.m. that evening to give alumnae time to shop before the event. The University's dining hall will be open before the event to those who would like to eat dinner on campus prior to the Alumnae Evening with the President.
This event is free to all alumnae, but registration is required. Registrations may be submitted online at stkate.edu/evening or by phone at 651-690-6666.
