St. Kate's community hosts second annual Food Week

Food Week, a week dedicated to awareness and mobilization around issues of food justice, returns to St. Catherine University for its second year during the week of Nov. 26 through Nov. 30, 2012.

The theme for this year's week-long event is "Just Food, Just Lives: Never Separate the Life You Live From the Food You Eat." The week kicks off on Monday with an Opening Rally at noon and a guest appearance by Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie at 5 p.m. in Rauenhorst Hall in the Coeur de Catherine student center.

The events, which are free and open to the public, will continue on both the Minneapolis and the St. Paul campus through Friday. Below is the schedule of events.

Monday:
Opening Rally: 12 p.m. in CdC 2nd Floor Atrium
Keynote Speaker, Secretary of State Mark Ritchie: 5-6 p.m. in CdC Rauenhorst Ballroom
2nd Annual CSJ/St. Kate’s Food Justice Dinner, 6;30, CSJ Administration Center (RSVP's required)

Tuesday:
Hunger Banquet: 11:45-1:15 p.m. in CDC 355 (Please RSVP)
Film & Discussion Series, 1:30-­4 p.m., Whitby 121
Community Garden Panel: 1:30-3 p.m. in CDC 355

Wednesday:
FCNS Food Drive, 2nd Floor Atrium, 12:00-1:30 p.m.
Together for 15: 12:05-12:15 p.m. in CDC Lower Atrium
Food, Freedom, Radio (Broadcast), 12:30-1:30 p.m., 2nd Floor Atrium
ACTC College Roundtable for Food Justice: 2:30 to 4 p.m. in CDC 361

Thursday:
Coffee Hour at the Mpls Campus: 12-1 p.m. in Deli
Community Garden Panel, 1:30-3:00pm, CdC 355
Teach-in for Food Justice: 4:30-6 p.m. in Mendel 101
Empty Bowls Making Event and Food Drive, 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Ceramics Studio, Visual Arts Building

Friday:
Colleges’ Community Garden Walk-through, 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
Closing Rally: 12-1 p.m. starting in CDC 2nd Floor Atrium
Community Garden Presentation and Film: 6-10 p.m. in Recital Hall

Throughout the week, the Food Justice Coalition will have a table in the Coeur de Catherine in the 2nd Floor Atrium during lunch. Responses to a survey and ideas for a cookbook around food justice will also be collected throughout the week.
