Give to St. Kate's Day more than quadruples its fundraising goal

A special "day of giving" on Nov. 15 to benefit the St. Catherine University Annual Fund raised more than $208,000 and brought in 80 new donors, in an effort that directly benefits St. Kate's students.

Give to St. Kate's Day was inspired by the success last year of Give to the Max Day, sponsored by A challenge match was issued for the first $50,000 collected, and the surpassing of that goal more than three times over made the day's success even more special.

The Annual Fund supports student scholarships, financial aid, faculty resources and more.

The final tally included online gifts, increases in payroll deductions by faculty and staff, matching gifts, and gifts sent by check or credit card. "We couldn't have done it without our donors," said Marta Zweber, Annual Fund coordinator and Give to St. Kate's Day project manager. "We are deeply appreciative."

Some donors designated their gifts for specific purposes; that amount totaled $22,710. The majority of gifts will be put toward "our greatest need, which primarily is student financial aid," said Annual Fund Director Stacey Rooney, MAOL'06.

Among those who helped build the matching gift fund were St. Catherine President Andrea Lee, IHM, and alumnae Colleen Curran, Kathleen Westby Kasprick, Ann Buckingham Ryan, Judith Dalglish McCartin Scheide, Helen Wagner and Sunny Bach Wicka.

"St. Kate's has such a great community of alumnae and friends who are generous -- and who are cheerleaders for the University. This was an exciting day for people to come together and be part of it," Rooney said.

Donors may continue to give to St. Kate's throughout the year; click here to link to the online donor form. Donors also are welcome to give through the site, though the University does incur a 2.9 percent processing fee.
