St. Catherine University welcomes Rabbi Andrea Weiss, Ph.D., who will deliver the 2012 Goodman Lecture on “Ancient Words, New Voices: The Story of The Torah--A Women’s Commentary,” Thursday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall inside the Music Building on the University’s St. Paul campus, 2004 Randolph Ave., St. Paul. The event is free and open to the public.

A professor of Bible at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, Weiss was associate editor of The Torah: A Women's Commentary that won the Jewish Book Council's 2008 Everett Family Foundation Jewish Book of the Year Award.

It is a collection of research and insights of more than one hundred Jewish women from all segments of the community: academics, rabbis, educators, and poets. It showcases women’s voices and uses traditional as well as innovative approaches to shed new light on ancient words.

Weiss is also the author of Figurative Language in Biblical Prose Narrative: Metaphor in the Book of Samuel and has also written articles on metaphor and biblical poetry. Her current research interests include the book of Psalms and metaphors for God in the Prophets.
