Iron casting is demonstrated at Mother's Day Iron Pour

Students and faculty from St. Catherine University joined local visiting artists and interns from Franconia Art Park to pull off the 4th Annual Mother's Day Iron Pour on May 13, 2012.

The iron casting team heated iron in a cupola furnace to a temperature of 2700 degrees, before tapping the iron and pouring it into molds and scratch blocks carved by students, artists and guests.

The Iron Pour is a collaboration of the Department of Art and Art History at St. Catherine University, Franconia Sculpture Park and local visiting artists, with additional support from the Artists’ Coalition, St. Kate’s Student Senate and SKAT.
