Hall named MIAC Women's Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week
The St. Catherine University hockey team earned its first win of 2013 against Concordia University (Wis.) thanks in large part to the strong play of goalie Alex Hall (Burnsville, Minn.) who stopped 34 shots en route to a 2-1 Wildcat victory, Saturday. For her performance, Hall was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week.
The junior helped preserve the Wildcats' lead in the third period, stopping 12 of 13 Falcon shots to pick up her fifth win this season. Her only goal allowed came with just 20 seconds left to play when the Falcons took advantage of a 6-on-4 power play opportunity.
In her first season as a Wildcat, Hall has a 5-1 record with her only loss coming against a then No. 7 University of Wisconsin-Superior squad in December. Her winning percentage (.833) is second-best among all MIAC goalies, while her 1.78 goals against average is fourth and her .944 save percentage is also fourth. She has also compiled an impressive 169 saves and allowed just 10 goals.
Hall and the Wildcats return to MIAC play this week as they will face the No. 2-ranked team in Division III, Gustavus Adolphus College. The team will travel to St. Peter, Minn., for a 7 p.m., contest on Friday before taking on the Gusties at home Saturday in a 2 p.m., matchup at Drake Arena.
