St. Kate's ceramics instructor Monica Rudquist received two awards at the Lakefront Festival of Arts in Wisconsin: Best of Show in Ceramics and Sculpture Garden installation.

Rudquist, who also serves as faculty advisor for St. Kate’s Clay Club, has participated in this annual juried event on the grounds at the Milwaukee Art Museum since 2005. The festival was held June 15-17 this year.

In addition to bragging rights, the 10 Best in Show winners each won $1,000 and earned automatic spots in the festival for the next two years — bypassing the jury process.

“This is a highly competitive art fair,” she says, “so the fact that the award includes an invitation to return for two years is plus.”

Rudquist was the lone winner in the Sculpture Garden category for ceramics installation. Mel Buchanan, the museum's assistant curator of 20th-century design, also had the responsibility for picking one artist to claim that $500 prize.
