St. Catherine University President Andrea Lee, IHM, announced July 1 that she has named Thomas J. Rooney to serve as the University’s Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer.
Rooney will assume a senior leadership role at St. Catherine, which enrolls 5,200 students and is home to the nation’s largest and most comprehensive college for women. In addition, Rooney’s responsibilities will include facilities, human resources, purchasing and procurement, safety and security, and The O’Shaughnessy, the performing arts center. Rooney will serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet and as an officer of the University Corporation.
"It is a joy to welcome Tom Rooney as our new Vice President for Finance and Administration," President Lee said. "Tom rose to the top of a talented and experienced pool of candidates, impressing trustees, senior colleagues and staff with a rare combination of financial experience and acumen, personal commitment to collaboration and teamwork, and a deep interest in serving as a leader within a Catholic institution of higher education. Tom’s unique skills and high energy will combine to make an outstanding contribution to the continued growth and strength of St. Catherine University.”
Rooney brings an array of financial experience to his new role, having served as vice president and treasurer at both G&K Services and Fingerhut Direct Marketing, and as assistant treasurer and business unit controller at Polaris Industries. Prior to that he served as senior business advisory officer and in various financial planning and analysis roles at Wells Fargo (formerly Norwest).
"I eagerly anticipate working with President Andrea Lee, members of her Cabinet, Trustees and St. Catherine faculty, staff and students,” Rooney said, “in order to advance St. Catherine’s mission as an outstanding Catholic university distinguished by its innovative spirit and premier baccalaureate college for women.”
Rooney holds a bachelor’s degree in business and economics and an MBA in finance, both from the University of St. Thomas. He is also a Certified Treasury Professional and has achieved recognition in several leadership development programs throughout his career.
