University magazine wins four awards in MMPA Excellence Awards

St. Catherine University's magazine, SCAN, was honored with a gold, two silvers and a bronze award in the 14th annual Minnesota Magazine Publishing Excellence Awards.

The winning entries were all drawn from three issues produced during the 2009–10 academic year.

SCAN's first gold award ever came in the "Best Single-Topic Issue" category. The magazine won for its June 2010 editorial focus on "Working Together," written by freelance writer Amy Lindgren '83 and featuring photos by Rebecca Zenefski '10.

"Our Lady's Spirit," written by Jon Spayde and art directed by Holmes Design, Northfield, earned a silver award for best feature article.

"St. Kate's Q & A" won silver as well, for best regular column. The three winning columns came from the following issues of SCAN: October 2009, February 2010 and June 2010.

The "Q & A" writing and photography contributors included St. Kate's Marketing and Communications Director Amy Gage, former Web Writer/Editor Andy Ferron, and freelancers Elizabeth Child, Karen K. Hansen, Bill Kelley and Rebecca Zenefski '10.

SCAN also won a bronze award for best use of visuals/photography for the October 2009 visual feature, "Look Out," featuring St. Kate's student Erin Coughlin '11.
