Fairview executive to deliver commencement address

Described as a "tremendous leader,” Carolyn Wilson was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Fairview Health Services in March of 2014. She stepped into this newly created position to oversee operational accountability for one of the largest integrated health systems in the Upper Midwest. Fairview has more than 22,000 and 2,500 affiliated physicians, who serve more than 625,000 patients a year.

She is also co-president of University of Minnesota Health, a collaboration between University of Minnesota Physicians and University of Minnesota Medical Center that integrates the facilities and services of both organizations.

Earlier this year, Wilson was among 35 Women Health Care Leaders honored by the Women’s Health Leadership TRUST, an organization dedicated to advancing women leaders in Minnesota.

The national healthcare industry trend-watcher, Becker's Hospital Review, has also listed Wilson as one of “130 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know” and among its “300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.”

She joined Fairview in 2011, with more than 30 years of broad experience in both direct patient care and strategic leadership. She came to Minnesota from the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she served for 13 years. Most recently, as Chief Operating Officer and Associate Dean.

Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rush University and a master’s degree in business administration from Benedictine University. Her professional experience includes community hospitals and nursing homes, as well as the National Institutes of Health, where she was a staff nurse.
